Neighbourhood Legal Services is a community legal clinic, funded by Legal Aid Ontario, serving the east side of downtown Toronto. We have been serving this community for over 40 years.

We are inviting applications for a position as STAFF LAWYER

The successful applicant will have experience in the practice of landlord and tenant law in Ontario and be able to take on a significant case load, including cases in the Divisional Court. Ability to and experience in working with clients living with trauma is essential. As well the successful candidate will have an understanding of legal practice in a community legal clinic, and a demonstrated interest in issues affecting disadvantaged individuals and groups. Experience in and an understanding of human rights law, especially as it affects low income tenants living with mental illnesses and/or other disabilities will be very helpful. A working knowledge of related areas of law will also be valued. The lawyer will be expected to act as a principal for the clinic's articling students.

In addition to case work, the staff lawyer:

  • will be engaged in law reform activities, public legal education and community outreach projects;
  • will work with articling students, student interns and volunteers; and,
  • will regularly partner with community agencies and other community legal clinics and legal service providers.

This is a full-time permanent position. The expected start date is January 2018.

Salary will be commensurate with experience but in the range of $75,000–$90,000. In addition we offer a generous benefits package.
