South Etobicoke Community Legal Services

For those seeking significant and meaningful work as an articling student South Etobicoke Community Legal Services (SECLS), a legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, has a position open for an articling student interested in challenging work in the field of social justice and poverty law. Under the supervision of clinic lawyers, the articling student will provide advice and representation in areas of poverty law, including Social Assistance, housing and employment law, and as well as engage in law reform, public legal education, and community development activities.

Qualifications for this position include:

  • LL.B or JD degree.
  • Student in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario eligible to enter the LSO Articling process.
  • In addition, the successful candidate must be:
    • Excellent judgment and problem-solving ability.
    • Relevant experience in an advocacy setting.
    • Advanced computer skills.

In addition candidates must be:

  • out of school;
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
  • legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
  • not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.

Subject to the availability of funding, this would be a full-time position for the ten month articling term, with a start date in June/July 2018.
