Algoma Community Legal Clinic

The Algoma Community Legal Clinic is a legal clinic serving the legal needs of low income residents of the City of Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area. The Legal Clinic provides legal advice and representation, delivers public legal education and participates in community development initiatives.

The Clinic is seeking a lawyer to fill a permanent position with a proposed start date of April 1, 2018.


  • The Staff Lawyer will carry a full poverty law case load including housing matters, social assistance, Canada Pension Plan and Criminal Injuries Compensation Board matters;
  • The Staff Lawyer will provide summary advice and brief services to clients as well as act, on occasion, as Tenant Duty Counsel at the Landlord and Tenant Board;
  • The Staff Lawyer will engage in community development activities, deliver Public Legal Education and participate in law reform initiatives as appropriate.


  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social justice and understanding of issues of significance to low-income communities;
  • Candidates with 5 years practice and/or with Legal Clinic experience would be an asset;
  • Fluency in the French language is an asset.
