1. Approval of redefinition of Central and Ottawa districts areas and appointment of Central area director and acting eastern area director
On October 14, 2015, the Chair presented to Board members, via Outlook email messaging, a briefing note proposing that the Board:
- approve, pursuant to section 15(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, an amalgamation of the Central and Ottawa District with portions of the Oshawa/Kingston area
- approve, pursuant to section 22(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, the appointment of Central Area Director and Acting Eastern Area Director for the redefined district areas.
The briefing note explained that redefining the districts would more closely align the structure of these district areas with the provincial judicial boundaries in LAO’s Central and Eastern Region.
Via Outlook email messaging, the majority of Board members approved the following:
Redefine the area of the Central District, such that the counties of Northumberland, Peterborough, Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes, previously found in the Oshawa/Kingston area, would amalgamate with the existing districts of Parry Sound and Muskoka and the County of Simcoe, pursuant to section 15(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, 1998
Redefine the area of the Ottawa District, to be renamed the Eastern District, such that Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington and Frontenac, previously found in the Oshawa/Kingston area, would amalgamate with the existing counties of Renfrew, Lanark, Leeds & Grenville, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, Prescott & Russell and the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton, pursuant to section 15(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, 1998
Appointment of Christine Lunn as the district area director for the redefined Central District area, pursuant to section 22(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, 1998
Appointment of Jennifer Carey as the acting area director for the redefined Eastern District area, pursuant to section 22(3) of the Legal Aid Services Act, 1998.
