Legal Aid Ontario's Lawyer Services & Payments Department (LSP) is happy to bring you this monthly Better Billing Bulletin. It's meant to provide you and your staff with information regarding tariff and billing practices. We hope you'll find it useful.

B3 Backlog of discretion reviews cleared!

We have eliminated our reviews backlog. We thank you for your patience. Effective March 1, 2009, we commit to completing your review requests within 60 days of receipt. To ensure that your review requests are processed in a timely way and backlogs remain a thing of the past, we would ask the following:

  • Please request a review within 60 days of payment of your final account. Review requests made after 60 days of final payment will not be considered.
  • Please respond to a request for review information within 15 business days. Failure to respond within 15 days will result in your review being deemed abandoned.


B3 Disbursements: electronic disclosure

Please remember that the cost of all large BCM printing orders, such as electronic disclosure, must be approved prior to being incurred. Contact Heather Corteling, Disbursements Administrative Support at 1-800-668-8258 ext.5000 or 416-979-2352 ext.5000 should you have questions.



B3 Disbursements: scanning & electronic storage

The cost of scanning and storing files electronically is considered overhead & should not be billed as a disbursement on a legal aid file.

The regular disbursement for photocopying is not intended to cover the cost of scanning unless the scanning is for the purpose of creating a hard copy in furtherance of legal proceedings. Only disbursements in furtherance of a legal proceeding may be claimed against a legal aid certificate.
