LAO to consult on suspensions of refugee & immigration services
Published: May 19, 2017
Between May 23 and June 16, 2017, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) will be holding a series of in-person and online consultations sessions to address the need to temporarily suspend some refugee services.
Without additional funding to meet the increased demand for refugee and immigration legal aid services, LAO must take immediate steps to ensure it operates within its means. In the longer term, LAO must consider making changes to how it delivers services to ensure that LAO can help as many refugees and immigrants as possible.
LAO is asking for feedback and ideas on what the organization could do to achieve savings while still meeting the needs of as many refugee clients as possible. LAO will consider feedback as it is received.
The consultation paper, Refugee and Immigration Law Services – Service Suspensions Consultation, provides a starting point for discussion.
Stakeholders are invited to make written submissions or attend either an in-person or online consultation session. If you’re interested in attending a consultation session or possibly arranging an in-person group session, please register or email us at RefConsult2017@lao.on.ca.
