LAO now offering most requested brochures in ten additional languages

After listening to feedback from community agencies that serve racialized communities, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) has translated its most requested brochures and fact sheets into the ten most requested languages.
“When we started looking at developing a strategy to address the needs of racialized groups, we saw an opportunity to give people a better understanding of their rights-and to do so in languages they’re comfortable with,” explains Kimberly Roach, one of the leads for LAO’s racialized communities strategy.
Her co-lead, Wayne van der Meide, notes that, during preliminary meetings with community groups that deal with large racialized communities, it became clear that there was a huge lack of understanding about what LAO does and the availability of legal aid services.
“Translating some of our most requested brochures and fact sheets into the most requested languages is just one simple step towards better serving a vast population comprised of many communities,” Wayne says.
The following brochures will now be available in the following languages:

This is the first phase of an ongoing project developed under LAO’s Racialized Communities Strategy. This translation project aims to raise greater awareness about LAO’s services and people’s rights in the languages they are most comfortable with.
