Monday, December 18, 2015
On Dec. 7, Sarnia mayor, Mike Bradley, presented Community Legal Assistance Sarnia lawyer, Debbie Draganits, with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) Champions award. This award is presented annually to individuals who show commitment to improving opportunities for people with disabilities.
Breaking barriers, improving access and creating inclusive communities are some of Debbie’s driving forces. A long-time accessibility advocate, she says, “Our work to break down accessibility barriers in our community is key to making sure Sarnia-Lambton is an inclusive and vibrant community.”
She is active on two local committees: the City of Sarnia Accessibility Committee as its chair and the County of Lambton Accessibility Committee as an active participant. Debbie is active in many projects that are associated with accessibility. One successful project is the Accessible Sarnia Lambton (Breaking Barriers to business) program, which was recognized by the province as being well ahead of the rest of the province in promoting accessibility for persons with a disability.
Debbie’s show of leadership and commitment to accessibility is commendable.
