Lawyers’ pay rates to increase April 1, 2015

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

Private lawyers who work with Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) clients will see their hourly pay rates increase by five per cent on April 1, 2015. This increase in rates includes block fees.

This is the last of seven rate increases agreed upon in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Ministry of the Attorney General and LAO in January 2010. By April 1, 2015, lawyers will have received a total increase of 41 per cent.

LAO pays lawyers under four different hourly rates — three of which are based on the lawyer’s years of experience. The fourth rate is for lawyers with cases that qualify under LAO’s Complex Criminal Case rate.
