Carole Dahan, senior counsel at LAO’s Refugee Law Office (RLO), and former director of the RLO, was honoured with the 2014 CARLA award from the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers on Thursday, Oct.16.
“Carole Dahan is an exemplary refugee lawyer and a role model to many."
The CARLA award recognizes people or groups of people who have made an exceptional contribution to the protection of refugees.
Said John McCamus, chair of LAO, “Carole Dahan is an exemplary refugee lawyer and a role model to many. Our clients and our staff have benefitted enormously from her talent, hard work and dedication over the years she’s been with us. We’re very pleased to have her commitment to access to justice for refugees recognized by CARL.”
During the ceremony on Thursday, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers had this to say about why Carole was chosen as this year’s recipient of the CARLA award:
“Carole is smart, relentless, tenacious, tremendously hard-working, fearless and articulate. She’s had amazing success at pulling seemingly-hopeless cases back from the fire, through huge personal effort, last-minute stay applications, or persuading a judge to take a second look. We know Carole as a visionary leader, for both the Refugee Law Office and the wider legal community. She has led by example, and she does it all with great elegance, humour and joie de vivre.”
CARL noted that they were “tremendously proud” to recognize Carole—their dear friend and colleague—as this year’s CARLA award recipient.
