Refugee lawyers: help us speed up authorizations for your RPD hearings
Tuesday, May 20, 2014
The GTA District office is experiencing an increase in the number of authorization requests for refugee protection division hearings.
We are aware that the bar needs a decision back from us as soon as possible. If you are concerned about a delay in our process of authorizing your request for an RPD hearing, please contact:
- the Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) staff member with whom you are dealing or
- LAO’s GTA District office, at 416-598-0200, ext. 4268 or
- Maureen Hastings at 416-598-0200, ext. 4275 or firstname.lastname@example.org
A member of LAO’s immigration law team will call you back within 24 hours and work with you to expedite a decision.
How to speed up the process
The fastest way to send us the documentation we need to assess a hearing authorization request is to send us your client’s complete Basis of Claim (an opinion letter is not required for RPD hearing assessments) as soon as you file it with the IRB via LAOiFax.
LAO requires the complete Basis of Claim form to determine the legal merit of the case, whether the hearing is for a new or legacy client.
Learn how to use LAOiFAX. Please pay particular attention to paragraphs five and six.
