New on our website: an online directory that makes it easy to find a panel lawyer

Monday, January 27, 2014

Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is making it easier for you to find a lawyer who can accept your legal aid certificate. The “Getting legal help” section of the LAO website now has a new, easy-to-use lawyer directory to help you find a lawyer.

To use the directory, you will need to:

  • type in your address, city and/or postal code — the directory will auto-complete your search once you type the first few letters

  • select the area of law for which you need help (such as criminal, family, refugee, child protection [CFSA], administrative tribunal and others).

If you have a language preference, you also have the option of selecting the language of your choice from a drop-down menu of at least 25 languages.

The page will show a randomised list of ten lawyers along with each lawyer’s address and phone number. You will be able to refresh or clear the results, or save the list as a PDF.

Alternatively, you can use the “search for a specific lawyer” feature and type in a lawyer’s name to get that lawyer’s contact information. Again, the page will auto-complete your search once the first few letters are typed.

The new page complies with LAO’s requirements for accessibility as well as threat risk and privacy impact assessment.
