High-quality multilingual interpretation service extended through 2015
Monday, August 26, 2013
Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) has extended its contract with a top-tier language interpretation company to provide toll-free and in-person clinic services in 200 languages. The service helps to expand access and promote accessibility to services for clients across Ontario.
Through Multilingual Community Interpreter Services (MCIS), clients can communicate in the language of their choice via LAO’s toll-free service, community legal clinics or Student Legal Aid Services Societies (SLASS). Multilingual services are available to clients in person, as well as over the phone, at no cost.
MCIS was first contracted by LAO in 2011 to provide multilingual translation and interpretation services and has recently been contracted through 2015 due to its popularity and effectiveness. MCIS was selected as the vendor following an RFP process that was overseen by a joint LAO-clinic evaluation and selection committee.
The new agreement includes all of the services that were previously available to clinics and SLASSs through MCIS but adds an additional service — American Sign Language interpretation.
Because the toll-free service and clinics have an established relationship with MCIS, the transfer to service provision under the new agreement, which took effect on August 1, will be seamless.
