Lawyers now able to attach dockets and disbursement invoices to block fee accounts

As of September 22, 2012, lawyers will be able to attach dockets, disbursement invoices, and other documents, such as court information, when they submit block fee accounts through Legal Aid Online.
This new feature provides a number of benefits. It will assist lawyers with record keeping by allowing them to consolidate and centralize their records for block fee accounts on Legal Aid Online. Attaching relevant documents will also reduce the need for LAO to contact lawyers for further details about an account, or to verify work completed for audit and quality assurance purposes.
Although it is not mandatory to attach dockets when submitting a block fee account to LAO, panel members are required to maintain detailed records. Lawyers should ensure their dockets contain calendar dates of service, and detail all client contact. Dockets should include calls, letters and interviews, court attendances, what the outcome was on each court attendance, and preparation work done on the file.
Legal Aid Ontario continues to refine Legal Aid Online to make the billing portal a more effective tool for service providers. Please consider the benefits and use this new feature – include dockets and disbursement invoices when submitting block fee accounts.
