Coming soon: Legal Aid Online to accept late accounts
Posted on: Monday, January 30, 2012
Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) is changing its billing rules for late billed accounts so lawyers may submit accounts through Legal Aid Online.
The ability to use Legal Aid Online will make the late billing process more efficient as lawyers will no longer need to forward their invoices through the mail or by fax. Although these accounts will still need to be reviewed manually, staff will be receiving them sooner, processing them faster and paying lawyers for certificate services much quicker.
Lawyers will be able to submit late accounts online beginning February 5, 2012 and will be notified once the changes have been made to Legal Aid Online. As the organization aims to pay all accounts within 60 days of receipt, LAO requests that lawyers please wait until this billing option is active to submit accounts that have passed the billing deadline. Late accounts received by fax or mail on or after February 5, 2012 will not be processed, and lawyers will be sent a notice advising them to submit the account online. LAO would also like to remind lawyers to continue to include the reasons why the account was submitted after the billing deadline, as well as any other required information.
