Family law centres score high with LAO clients

Ninety-nine per cent of clients who have visited one of Legal Aid Ontario’s (LAO) six family law service centres (FLSC) are very satisfied with their experience.
In a survey conducted last year, family law clients were asked to provide feedback on service levels such as amount of time for service, types of family issues and type of assistance received. Overall, most clients were happy with the service they received and felt they were treated with courtesy and respect by LAO staff.
Of the clients polled, over 90 per cent reported that they received the help they needed with their legal issues and a further seven per cent feel they received at least part of what they needed. Clients were also pleased with how quickly they received assistance -- approximately 58 per cent of clients received assistance the first time they visited a FLSC, while about 22 per cent were able to book an appointment within 1 to 3 business days.
FLSCs have been open since July 2010 and are designed to operate seamlessly with other LAO family law services, such as the Family Law Information Program (FLIP), family law duty counsel, and summary legal advice offered through LAO’s toll-free number. FLSCs provide clients with family law matters another access point for information, resources and advice, and are another way for LAO to help meet a growing need for family law services in Ontario.
