LAO offices now in 56 courthouses across Ontario

To provide low-income Ontarians with faster and more convenient service, Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) offices are now located in 56 courthouses across the province. Courthouse locations are part of LAO?s overall modernization strategy aimed at streamlining services, making better use of technology and expanding client access.
LAO?s courthouse offices provide clients with application services, general information, status checks, and referrals. LAO opened its first courthouse office in Windsor in November 2008, and since then, more than 50,000 clients have been served at courthouse sites across Ontario.
At courthouse offices, clients get faster service, often in the same courthouse in which they are scheduled to appear. Sixty-one per cent of clients are seen on or before their first court appearance and almost 90 per cent of clients receive same-day decisions on their certificate applications. Courthouse offices allow LAO to better support its justice partners, and to integrate with local services and resources.
LAO plans to establish several additional courthouse locations in the coming year.
