LAO surveys lawyers on block fees
Posted on: Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Over 200 lawyers have responded to a recent poll on phase 1 of the block fee pilot. Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) polled lawyers who have been billing on block fees accounts since the program launched last May.
Lawyers across the province provided their feedback on timeliness of account payments, amount of billing administration required, and ability to provide quality services to clients.
Over 40 per cent of respondents indicated that block fees reduced the amount of billing administration required, and almost 60 per cent of respondents reported that block fees did not affect their ability to provide quality service to clients.
The results of the survey will be used to inform phase 2 of the block fee pilot, which is set to roll out in May 2010.
LAO has developed a series of online tutorials to help lawyers and other stakeholders better understand the second phase of block fees.
