Mandatory Online Billing – help us pay you faster!
Posted on: Thursday, December 31/09
Legal Aid Ontario is grateful for the certificate services you provide to low-income Ontarians. We are trying hard to become more efficient and pay you faster. Last year, we contacted you regarding billing Online in the hope that you would make the transition from paper to portal. When an account is submitted by paper, LAO staff have to sort the account, scan and manually enter it into our Online billing system. This takes time and resources and delays how quickly we can pay you.
Recently, LAO’s Senior Management decided to move towards making Online billing mandatory for all panel lawyers. On January 1, 2010, you will be required to submit your Legal Aid accounts through LAO’s secure Legal Aid Online website. LAO will no longer process paper accounts after January 1, 2010. The time we would normally spend on data entering your accounts will be redirected to paying you faster.
LAO will do its best to support you during the transition from paper to Online accounts.
The Lawyer Service Centre is there to support you with any Online billing questions you might have. If you require a user id and password to begin submitting accounts online, please contact the Lawyer Service Centre for assistance.

You can also review our Legal Aid Online training tutorial video available on www.legalaid.on.ca in the Legal Aid Online section of the website.
If you are suspended from using the Online billing website or you are trying to submit an account past the 18 month deadline, you must continue to submit your accounts by paper until further notice.
We thank you for your co-operation and look forward to supporting you during this transition.
