Getting legal help
Child protection matters
Legal Aid Ontario provides financially eligible families with representation by a family lawyer when the clients are involved in a court proceeding with a child protection agency.
Clients and their lawyers can work together to address legal issues by taking steps such as: bringing forward motions, participating in settlement negotiations, and conducting in-depth file review – all of which support earlier resolution and avoid unnecessary trials.
If you are notified that a child protection agency is taking steps to remove your child from your home, you should contact LAO to find out whether you are eligible for representation by a family lawyer.
