HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO)
The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) is a community legal clinic serving the legal needs of people living with HIV in Ontario. The clinic is seeking a lawyer to provide immigration law services on a 1 year contract, with renewal contingent on funding. This position has been funded since 2011 through annual grants, and efforts are underway to secure permanent funding.
The lawyer will work closely with HALCO's other immigration lawyer to provide summary advice and representation in relation to a wide range of immigration and refugee law matters. The lawyer may also be involved in public legal education, law reform, and community development initiatives.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Immigration/refugee law experience (minimum three years)
- Fluency in French
- Knowledge of HIV and affected communities
- Knowledge of poverty law (e.g., income maintenance, tenancy)
