Articling Position in Moosonee

Keewaytinok Native Legal Services, a community clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, has been awarded a Law Foundation of Ontario Connecting Articling Fellowship funded through the Law Foundation.

We are seeking a law school graduate to work in Moosonee as an articling student for the 2018/19 articling year.

Work will include landlord and tenant, social assistance, public legal education, summary advice in a variety of areas of law and work with local First Nations and organizations.

We will attempt to supplement the experience in our own office with work with the members of the local and visiting to provide exposure to other areas of law.

Moosonee is a remote (no road access) community in Northern Ontario. It is accessible by rail from Cochrane or by air. The successful candidate will be responsible for obtaining housing.

This position may involve travel by helicopter, taxi boat, small plane and snowmobile. It may also involve work on reserves where alcohol is banned and where the articling student may be required to submit to a search of her or his person and baggage as a condition of entry.

Preference will be given to Cree speaking candidates.

Salary last year for this position was $4750 per month before deductions and may be slightly higher this year.
