Articling Student Position 2018-2019

HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO)

The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) is a community legal clinic serving the legal needs of people with HIV in Ontario. HALCO staff provide legal advice and representation, and engage in public legal education, law reform and community development activities. The clinic is seeking an articling student for 2018-2019. The start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities

The articling student will provide summary advice, referrals, brief services, and representation to people with HIV across Ontario, primarily in clinic law matters (e.g., income maintenance, rental housing, human rights). The student may also have the opportunity to participate in public legal education, community development and law reform initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable interest in clinic/poverty law
  • Experience working with marginalized communities
  • Commitment to social justice

Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and affected communities and/or fluency in French would be assets but are not essential.
