2017-2018 articling position

Community Legal Clinic of York Region

Applications due Sunday, March 19, 2017

We seek an articling student with excellent research, writing and English communication skills. Experience working with low-income or other marginalized clients and communities is an asset. You must be eligible to undertake articles in Ontario.

We are the Community Legal Clinic of York Region (www.clcyr.on.ca), a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario to serve the residents of York Region (the municipalities of Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora, Newmarket and 4 smaller semi-rural communities).

Our main office is located in Richmond Hill (about 30 minutes by express bus north of the Finch subway).

Our work is generally focussed on the protection of tenancies, social assistance and accessibility. Civil litigation (including human rights), law reform and community development work are undertaken on behalf of individuals with very low incomes and their communities.

You will normally work Monday to Friday from our main office. Some travel to our satellite offices and field work in the community will be required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary. Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

Each applicant should forward a resume and cover letter. Transcripts, writing samples and letters of reference are optional at this stage but should be available if an interview is granted.

Applications must arrive by Sunday, March 19, 2017.
